The mission of College Heights Baptist Church is to love and glorify God by magnifying the name of Jesus Christ. We seek to expand God’s Kingdom in the city of Plainview and beyond by intentionally making disciples.  We are a passionate group of people who have been changed by the blood of Jesus and want to celebrate that truth, while seeing others do the same.  Our desire is to foster a community of love that reaches out with the truth of the Gospel.

Plainview, Texas is a diverse community and we at CHBC pride ourselves on being diverse as well.  We welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of age, race or economic standing.

Our Leadership Team:

jason smith

Pastor

Jason and his wife, Laine met at Texas A&M University and have been married since 2002. They have been blessed with three children: Eyan, Eli and Lily. Jason holds an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a M.Div from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
“I love God’s word, and can’t believe I have the privilege of preaching it on a weekly basis. I strive to hide behind the word of God, so that all would see Jesus more clearly.”
Jason also enjoys sports and desserts – a paradox.
Gary Yates

Minister of Education

Gary and his wife, Jeanie, are both graduates of Wayland Baptist University. Gary holds the Master of Religious Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have two sons and five grandchildren. “I have served in the education ministry since 1981 and have seen a lot of changes. However, there are some things that remain constant—people need to study God’s Word, they need to meet in small groups to learn how others live the Word, and the Word is still active in changing lives.” Both Gary and Jeanie enjoy spending time with their grandchildren as often as they can.
joe berry

Minister of Music

Joe and his wife, Margaret, have been married since 1972.  They have one daughter Michelle.  Michelle and her husband Justin live in Irving, Texas. Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree in music education from Prairie View A & M University. He has served as Minister of Music/Worship at First Church of the Nazarene, Plainview; Bethel Baptist, Plainview and here at College Heights Baptist Church, since 1997.

I love spending time with my family, singing and listening to music, playing and watching sports. My favorite hymn and praise chorus are “Victory in Jesus” and “Everlasting God”.  My life verse is Psalm 37:4 which says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Jason Elvington

Minister to Students

Jason married his wife, Elizabeth, in 2012. They met through their church while students at Clemson University in South Carolina. Jason graduated from Clemson in 2009 with a B.A. in Communication Studies and from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014 with an M.Div in Christian Ministry. Jason’s passion in ministry is to disciple university and youth students to see them grow as life long disciples of Jesus Christ who are committed to His Word, living in biblical community, and serving His church to carry out His mission on earth.

Jason also enjoys spending time with his wife and watching sports.
